Heading back home

Guess what?
I'm back in O'Hare airport...Made it to my show in Traverse City, MI. Had a great time and actually won 200 bucks at blackjack. The local radio station there has been playing our new record for weeks and their listeners seem to like it. They don't get americana music up in that area. Thanks to Dano from WLDR 101.9 and thanks to Lidsey and her husband for bring me toothpaste and a toothbrush. They were listening to the morning show when I called in and was complaining about my luggage being in Traverse city and me being stuck without a toothbrush in north Chicago. That was very thoughtful.
I almost forgot, there we actually HB fans at the show!!! Ron and Sam caught a show in Austin two years ago and have been listening to HB ever since. That's a good feeling when you can fly to Northern Michigan and have people requesting songs.
Got to go... Hope my flight is not canceled again.
Thanks for all the blog comments, they brought smiles.

United Airlines Suck

I'm on my way to Traverse City, Michigan with hopes of getting to the casino a little early!! I planned on losing some cash tonight but United Airlines decided to save me some money and keep me in the O'Hare Airport for 6 hours. By the time I get to Traverse city I will have had all the Starbucks and peanut M&Ms I can handle. I think I am gonna get drunk. I always wanted to be the guy they throw of the plane and send to a hotel to sleep it off. Maybe I'll just stay in Chicago tonight and go to Joes bar on Weed Street and say hi to Ed the owner.
So I got drunk and missed my plane. United changed terminals on me and decided not to tell me. They changed the gate from f2 to b22. If you have ever been in the O'Hare airport you would know that it takes 25 mins to walk that distance and 15 mins to run. I had 12 mins to get to the right gate. I ran as fast as I could, lungs burning, heart pumping, legs shaking only to find that I missed the plane by 3 mins.
Stuck in Chicago!!! Shit. Take a cab to Northbrook and stay at the Radisson. Thank god the Hotel bar stayed open an extra hour for me!! What a day!! 8 hours in the O'Hare airport and I have to go again tomorrow. United Airlines suck.

Oklahoma, Kansas, and Paris

Hope this blog finds you well. Our hearts go out to everyone who was affected by Ike. We are headed up to Stillwater, OK as I type this. It’s been a while since we played in Stillwater. The name of the club is the Copper Penny. Next, we drive to Manhattan, KS to Play a show with Kevin Fowler at the Longhorn Saloon. First time in the joint for the HB. Then we drive to Paris, TX for our last show of the weekend at Crosswire. Should be a good weekend of shows. I’ll let you know!!

Little shake up in the band, Stephen our drummer for over a year, is now attending law school at St. Mary’s in San Antonio. We are very fortunate to pick our new drummer, Mike Henretty. Mike has been in the Scene for quite awhile. He has played with Drew Womack, Jack Ingram, and most recently with Brandon Ryder. Mike brings tons of experience and awesome grove to the band. If you have the chance, walk up and welcome him into the band.

Mile by Mile continues to get over 1000 radio spins/week just in Texas. The next single, Put That Ring Back On Your Finger, will be released later this year. With such great success with MBM, Ring should move up the charts with lighting speed. Thank you for all the calls made to your local radio stations requesting MBM.

South Texas seems to like our New CD as well. We had close to 500 people at Schroeder Hall last weekend. That is the most people we have had in Victoria. Thanks to JR and Anne Hudson at Kicks 108 in Victoria for pumping up the show.

Amarillo in the morning!!

I think there is some kinda song that sorta starts that way!!  Good morning everybody, it's Saturday and I can't wait to watch some college football.  We had a good show at the Golden Light in Amarillo last night.  Our Friend Travis Linville played the show with us and will again play tonight in Lubbock.  We always enjoy the Blue Light, so I am looking forward to it. Our single is still moving up the charts!  #8 on the Texas music chart and # 17  on the national Americana chart.  Thanks for calling stations if you have and If you haven't, help a brother out!!!!  We have done so well moving up these charts.  We are up against big labels that have lots of money and can get crap played.  We are not on a big label and don't have lots of money.  Hats off to the great stations playing our music.  It really takes big balls from a Program or Music Director to add a song like 'Mile by Mile' to the rotation of top 40 country.  Many times it might mean a thrashing from the Boss, but they are listening to you want to hear!!  Or what they want to hear!!  I guess my whole point is that I love listening to the radio, better than CD's or an Ipod.  I love the way the compression works to make the songs pop out of the speakers.  I love the DJ's voice, so much I married one.  I especially love hearing a song I wrote and Sang!  Probably one of the best feelings ever.  I remember the very first time I heard myself singing on the radio.  It was in 1996 from a live songwriter show.  I'm sure if I heard it today I might not thing too highly of the performance but back then it was great!!!  I turned it up as loud as my speakers could handle and pulled into a 7-11 and rolled down all the windows.  Just waiting for someone to ask me who that was singing.  No one asked but it still sounded wonderful.  We got well over 1000 spins last week alone and I still get that same sense of pride and accomplishment every time. OK I have rambled enough.  Have a great weekend.

Mile By Mile Number 9# on Texas Music chart

Still Moving up the charts, Mile by Mile slipped into the ninth spot this week on the Texas Music Chart! This chart adds up all the spins for radio stations in and around Texas that play Texas Music.  On another note, had a great week of show including Lufkin and Galveston.  This week we have two shows, Friday at Gilleys in Dallas and Saturday at Warehouse live in Houston.  I have a good feeling these will be great shows.  SO.... If you have been waiting to check out the band, here is your chance!  See you there!

Top 10 on Texas Music Chart

You read it here first!  Honeybrowne's single, Mile by Mile, moved up to the tenth spot on the Texas Music Chart.  Pretty freakin' cool if you ask me.  We have not had a single on the chart since Something to believe in made it to number 5 in 2006.  We only got 9 more spots till number 1!!  So if you have a moment, call your nearest radio station and request Mile by Mile.  Here is a list of all the stations in Texas and Oklahoma.  I stole this from Rich O'Tool but don' tell anyone!

ahhhh... Sundays!! booze and bolgs!

Sundays make me feel good or maybe the bottle of wine I seem to drink gives me that fuzzy feeling!  Anyway, HB had a great weekend.  Starting with our show in San Antonio, which ended up moving to the inside of Rolling oaks.  The rain was relentless, so we crammed ourselves in the small stage inside.  This was the first show where we saw people singing to the new songs on Mile by Mile.  We ran into new and old friends of the HB.  Yaga's in Galveston was packed and so was the Ziegenbock Festival in Corpus Christi.  Had a real good time talking to some of the musicians there.  They included, Joe Ely, Waylon Payne, Cory Morrow,  and The Eli Young Band.  It's nice to have a chance to speak with everyone and watch their show.  I don't have time to check bands out much anymore.  Touring, writing and recording has taken most of my time.
One more thing, the band and I did save a Goats life this weekend and we got it on film.  I will be up loading the video later.  One of those feel good moments!  Stay tuned!

Movin' on up!

So check this out!  Our single Mile by Mile  is climbing the charts fast.  We're number 24 this  week on the texas music chart and we debuted at number 36 on the Americana chart.  Really happy that the radio stations dig our new songs!!  You want to read something funny?  Next week if we move up 10 spins on the americana chart, we will be higher than Van Morrison!!!  What the Fu#@!!!!  Pretty crazy, he did write Into the mystic, Moondance, and Browne Eyed Girl!  Not that I am comparing HB to Van but it's still real cool.  Just to keep you up to date on the band, Stephen will be starting law school in Aug.  so we have been working a new Drummer into the set.  This will be Stephen's last week out with us.  The new drummer's name is Jason.  He is great and been playing all his life.  The great thing is that he is Stephen's Best friend.  So if you see Stephen, tell him you will miss him.  I know the band will.  Till next time, goodbye from THE BROWNE BLOGS
